This is a feature release coinciding with the release of the v4.3 Linux Kernel.

Group Select Selection Method Extension Accepted into Open vSwitch

Work by Simon Horman of Horms Solutions to extend select groups to allow finer grained control over them has been accepted and is now present in the master branch of the Open vSwitch repository.

This work provides a mechanism to control algorithm used make load balancing decisions of select groups. A flexible hashing method is also provided as an example. It allows control via OpenFlow of which fields of the flow key are hashed.

Perdition 2.0 Released

Simon Horman of Horms Solutions has released version 2.0 of Perdition.

This is the culmination of the 1.19-rc series of releases. A decision has been made to name the release 2.0 instead of 1.19 as there are significant changes since the release of 1.18 including support for a new protocol, managesieve.

LTSI ISM, San Francisco

Today Simon Horman of Horms Solutions participated int the LTSI ISM (Long Term Stable Industry, Industry Contact Meeting) in San Francisco. At the event guidelines were discussed for changes to LTSI in minor releases. Briefly they are as follows:

Other discussion included participants needs for support beyond two years, what seems to be referred to as Ultra Long Term Stable, an initiative yet to progress beyond discussion.

Linux.Conf.Au Presentations

Over the past few weeks eastern Australia, including Brisbane, has been subjected to devastating floods. Our sympathy and condolences are with anyone adversely effected by these events.

Last night a decision was made by the organisers and Linux Australia [offsite] that despite the floods Linux.Conf.Au 2011 [offsite] will go ahead next week in Brisbane as scheduled. Horms Solutions is delighted to be able to be part of the event.

In Tuesday Simon Horman will be making a presentation at the MobileFOSS miniconf [offsite] on using zboot to boot Linux directly from flash or, SD or MMC cards on SH-Mobile ARM.

On Wednesday at 15:45 Simon Horman will be making a presentation at the main conference on Network Bandwidth Control in Virtualized Environments [offsite]. This covers the use of Linux's QoS facilities to control guest bandwidth usage.
